Hello everybody. Welcome back to the new podcast tips I remind you to go to my site if you want to listen to other podcasts and find other material.

Looking at my university books, I went back to Descartes. Descartes has always been a problem for me in exams but there is a concept of his that has always fascinated me and I liked it a lot because the concept we all have which is the concept of doubt.

That is, we all have doubts but Descartes’s doubt is something deeper, he says that the first rule of his method is that we must accept as true only what appears to us is evident.

Therefore, according to him, doubt must be assumed as a methodological procedure, therefore a methodical doubt a doubt about everyone and a little bit a very current analysis is said now we talk about assent bias that as they say in short of these errors that we make because we feel the senses and not the reason of the same thing that he says the philosopher puts us Descartes warns us of the senses.

Sometimes they deceive us and therefore it is not prudent to always give total trust to the senses there are for example for him experiences such as dreams that seem completely true yet are not and it is therefore impossible to distinguish sometimes between reality and fiction.

Instead there are some knowledge that we must consider true that are like algebra, geometry, in short, mathematics. Maybe that’s why I didn’t like Descartes so much because I wasn’t a great lover of mathematics.

But according to him also these knowledge and doubts also those of the algebra of geometry and therefore he wants to make this doubt universal and therefore increase it to put everything into question and therefore he says it could also be that the God we think is not a good God but a Evil God is not a good and wise God who wants to deceive us so maybe he makes us believe that between plus two is five that the sky is blue that the sun warms instead all this is not true are only our impressions.

So according to him there is a need for a solid and secure foundation for knowledge at least one certainty and from this certainty to start again and to derive all other knowledge and tells him that there is only one thing of which I can be sure there is one thing that is sure that I will be fooled.

So to admit that there is an evil God who deceives me I must exist. So if I think I exist the famous Cogito ergo sum. So let’s also admit that there is a deceptive evil genius who does everything to deceive but to be deceived or deceived me I must exist.

This is the famous Cartesian doubt so it is to question everything, even the universal, not just the particular. To find a certainty and the certainty of one’s own existence from here to start again to build all in all it is very very interesting Cartesian thought is not very simple very interesting and in any case the important thing is doubt.

We must not believe in everything, we must doubt and rebuild certainties and to build certainties we must know things. So to know we have to commit ourselves we have to study we have to reach the famous awareness. Always there you return. Thank you all.
