Today I wanted to talk about a personal experience that happened to me recently and that in any case made me reflect. Last week I was contacted via Linkedin by a headhunting company.

I have registered but I have not completed the registration. Since then I have been receiving a lot of emails from them every day. Today I received an email that made me think a lot.

I did not know that this headhunting platform had the difference between first Premium users but it is something that can be there. So they explain what are some of the advantages it can have but the main advantage would be this which I am now reading to you.

In addition, Premium users are contacted by hunters up to 15 times more than basic users. I wonder, but why this thing. Because just because I paid I should be noticed and contacted 15 times more than a person who has not made this step since April 1st.

This is an aspect that is very close to my heart because I have already said it in other podcasts, for six months now I have been doing this journey with MIT, with Bocconi in the digital world and in the world of platforms.

Here this is the classic example of freemium platform so freemium model has two sides on the one hand there are companies looking for the right people for them. On the other hand, there are candidates and managers who might be suitable for these companies. In between is the headhunter platform here they have to match the two.

It is clear that if you send me this type of message it means that the preference, that is, what you offer to the company is not the best candidate for the company but you are telling me, look, there is a shortcut, if you pay you are one step ahead of others.

As a manager, as a professional who puts himself on the market, I can also say that I have paid so I find a job, he found a better job and more easily but he used to think also of the other side of the platform.

On the other hand he cannot be happy with this because I am probably not the best resource for them I am the person with the experience the training the best curriculum I am just a person who has paid to have a fast track.

I don’t know if you understand the big mistake this headhunting company made which is not an unknown company is a very well known company.

Perhaps the biggest mistake is also that in this digital world they are underestimating the power of the crowd and the power of the user.

Who knows how many people have turned up their noses reading this this email. Who knows how many people have made a negative comment regarding this company for this message.

Not understanding that in the digital world in a world where information is instantaneous and where the judgment of the crowd can cause a company to have a good or bad reputation, making such mistakes is very serious.

These are mistakes that should never be made. Even if they did such a thing they should not communicate because communicating it means that you have written an indelible thing that you are offering me a shortcut to be contacted by the company.

And the company itself can understand that this company is not doing its job in the best way. So something that I find incorrect but above all very stupid.

So really a lot of attention in the digital world to be correct, to write the right things and to understand the power of the crowd. Thank you all.
